Join Us as a Volunteer Firefighter!

The Mineral Fire Department is reaching out to residents of Louisa County and neighboring areas who are passionate about serving our community. Whether you're considering entering the fire service for the first time or you're a seasoned veteran, we eagerly await your inquiry. Please take a moment to complete the form below to introduce yourself, and we'll be in touch promptly to address any questions you may have.

Training at No Cost to You!

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

Our application process involves the following steps:

  1. Submit Your Inquiry: Click here to submit.

  2. Complete the Volunteer Service Application for Louisa County: Fill out the application electronically and email it to info@mineralfire.org. Application Link: Volunteer Application

  3. Background Check: Your application will be sent to the county for a background check.

  4. 30-Day Waiting Period: Your application will "layover" for 30 days while we conduct the background check.

  5. Ride Along: During the waiting period, you must complete at least one 6-hour ride along. Fill out the Ride Along Waiver and Information form and email it to info@mineralfire.org. A line officer must approve this request. Ride Along Waiver Link: Ride Along Waiver and Information

  6. Membership Approval: After the waiting period, your application will be voted on at the next business meeting. Attendance is mandatory, with exceptions considered.

  7. Probationary Membership: If voted into the department, you'll be a probationary member for 6 months. After this period, you'll be eligible for full membership with voting rights. Full membership eligibility requires you to be 18 years or older.

  8. Fingerprinting: You must be fingerprinted according to Virginia OEMS standards within 30 days of becoming a member. You must accomplish this by either logging into your Virginia Office of EMS portal or creating an account if none exists. Once logged in, you must request affiliation with Louisa County Fire and EMS. Once that request is submitted you will need to register to be fingerprinted. Failure to pass the federal background check may result in revocation of your membership.

We appreciate your interest in joining our team and look forward to welcoming you to the Mineral Fire Department family!
